What to expect

Brazilian lymphatic drainage is a more dynamic style of lymphatic massage, using rhythmic, purposeful movements across the body rather than the very light approach associated with traditional lymphatic drainage.

Your treatment combines hands-on techniques with maderotherapy wood tools, which are used across selected areas to add a more focused sculpting and contouring element to the session.

The treatment follows key lymphatic pathways, using rhythmic manual techniques to enncourage fluid movement throughout the sequence.

The treatment is generally full body and may include abdomen, waist, hips, legs, arms, back and face depending on the session booked and your preferred focus area. Pressure and pace are adjusted around your comfort throughout.

Many clients choose this treatment when they want to feel lighter, less puffy and more refreshed, or simply want a body-focused treatment that feels very different from a traditional relaxation massage.

Brazilian Lymphatic Drainage vs Traditional MLD

Brazilian-stlye Lymphatic Drainage

A more dynamic, body-focused treatment using rhythmic manual techniques and firmer movements in some areas.

The treatment is often chosen for its aesthetic and wellbeing focus, with attention given to how the body feels and looks immediately after the session.

At NOVO Therapy, this is also combined with maderotherapy wooden tools for a more sculpting, contour-focused experience.

Traditional Manual Lymphatic Drainage

Traditional MLD is generally much lighter and more clinical in style, using gentle, precise techniques designed around lymphatic flow.

It may be used in medical or post-operative settings by appropriately trained practitioners, including for conditions such as lymphoedema.

NOVO Therapy offers Brazilian Lymphatic Drainage as a non-medical wellness and aesthetic treatment. It is not a replacement for clinical MLD or lymphoedema treatment.

What is Wood Therapy / Maderotherapy?

Wood therapy, also known as maderotherapy, uses specially shaped wooden tools alongside hands-on massage techniques. Different tools are used to roll, knead and work across areas of the body in a controlled, rhythmic way to support lymphatic drainage, encourage the movement of temporary fluid retention and add a more targeted contouring element.

At NOVO Therapy, wood therapy is incorporated into the Brazilian lymphatic treatment rather than offered as a completely separate routine. It adds a more targeted, sculpting feel to the treatment while still allowing the session to flow as one complete experience.

Pressure is always adjusted around your comfort – the aim is a purposeful treatment, not something that feels painful or aggressive.

Rollers

Used across larger areas such as the legs, hips and stomach. Their rhythmic rolling and compression helps support the drainage sequence and prepares larger areas for more focused contouring work.

Contouring Tools

Shaped tools allow more targeted directional work around areas such as the waist, stomach, hips and thighs, helping encourage fluid movement while following the body’s natural contours.

Wooden Cups & Small Tools

Used selectively to support the drainage sequence through more focused areas and to work around the natural shape of the body where larger tools would be less precise.

Areas treated during Brazilian Lymphatic Drainage

Brazilian lymphatic drainage is a full-body treatment and can include the abdomen, waist, hips, back, legs and arms.

The exact balance of the treatment is adapted around your body, your preferences and the areas you would most like to focus on. Some clients want more attention through the stomach and waist, while others prefer greater focus on their legs.

Intimate areas are never treated. Appropriate draping is maintained throughout your appointment.

What results should I expect?

People often book Brazilian Lymphatic Drainage because they want to feel lighter, less puffy and more refreshed after their treatment. Some clients may also notice a temporarily smoother and more defined appearance immediately afterwards.

Results vary from person to person and the treatment should not be viewed as a weight-loss or fat-removal treatment. Any visible changes are influenced by factors such as fluid retention, lifestyle and your individual body.

This is a wellness and aesthetic treatment – not a weight-loss treatment, medical lymphatic treatment or substitute for healthcare.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Brazilian Lymphatic Drainage painful?

It can feel more purposeful and active than a traditional relaxation massage, particularly when wooden tools are used, but it should not feel painful. Pressure is adjusted around your comfort throughout.

How is Brazilian Lymphatic Drainage different from traditional MLD?

Brazilian-style treatment is generally more dynamic and aesthetic-focused with a goal of sculpting and contouring the body, while traditional manual lymphatic drainage uses very gentle, precise techniques and may also be used in clinical settings by appropriately trained practitioners.

What is Wood Therapy?

Wood Therapy, or Maderotherapy, uses specially shaped wooden massage tools alongside manual techniques to create a more targeted, rhythmic and sculpting treatment experience.

Will Brazilian Lymphatic Drainage help me lose weight?

No. Brazilian Lymphatic Drainage is not a weight-loss or fat-removal treatment. People may temporarily feel less puffy or notice a more defined appearance, but it does not remove body fat.

Which areas are treated?

The treatment can include the abdomen, face, waist, hips, back, legs and arms, with the session adapted around your preferences and the areas you would most like to focus on.

What should I wear?

You can undress to your own level of comfort. Appropriate draping is maintained throughout the treatment, with only the area being worked on uncovered.

Should I book 60 or 90 minutes?

60 Minutes is designed for a complete body treatment. 90 Minutes gives additional time across the body and can include facial work for a more extended treatment experience.

Can I have this treatment after surgery?

Not automatically. Recent surgery or medical procedures may require clearance from your healthcare professional, and post-operative lymphatic care should be provided by a suitably trained practitioner. Please contact me before booking if you are unsure.

Is this suitable if I have lymphoedema?

No. NOVO Therapy’s Brazilian Lymphatic Drainage treatment is a non-medical wellness and aesthetic service and is not designed to treat lymphoedema. Clinical lymphatic conditions require assessment and treatment from an appropriately qualified healthcare of lymphoedema practitioner.

How often can I have Brazilian Lymphatic Drainage?

This depends on why you are booking and how your body responds. Some clients enjoy it occassionally as a standalone treatment, while others choose a short series of appointments prior to an event. We can discuss what feels appropriate for you without committing you to a fixed course.
