WHAT TO EXPECT

What to Expect During Your Massage

We begin with a short conversation based on your pre-completed consultation form, agreeing your pressure, focus areas and what you want from your appointment.

Flowing strokes, kneading and rhythmic techniques are adapted throughout. You can ask for changes or for any area to be avoided.

Where would you like to focus?

  • Back, neck & shoulders
  • Lower back & glutes
  • Lower legs & feet
  • Arms & hands
  • Face, neck & scalp

A full-body Swedish massage usually includes the back, neck, shoulders and legs, with arms, hands, feet, abdomen or glutes included according to your preferences and time. Extra time can be spent on a chosen area.

Abdomen and glutes are always optional, with explicit consent and appropriate draping.

Before Your Appointment

Complete your consultation form well before arrival so Jamie can review any relevant health information. Avoid a very heavy meal immediately beforehand, stay normally hydrated and arrive freshly showered. If you have a health concern, ask Jamie before booking.

Swedish Massage FAQs

What should I wear for my Swedish Massage?

You’ll undress only to your level of comfort, usually down to your underwear. You’ll remain appropriately draped throughout your treatment, with only the area being worked on uncovered.

Can I choose the pressure?

Absolutely. Pressure is tailored to your preference and can be adjusted at any point during your treatment. You are always welcome to speak up to request an adjustment at any point during your massage.

What areas are included in a full-body massage?

A full-body massage will usually include the back, neck, shoulders and legs as a minimum with other areas included depending on your preferences and the time available.

Can I ask you to avoid certain areas?

Absolutely. Your treatment is tailored around your comfort and preferences, and any area can be included, reduced or avoided.

Is Swedish massage suitable for my first massage?

Yes. Swedish massage is a good introduction to massage because the pressure, pace and areas treated can all be adapted around you.

How long should I book?

30 or 45 minutes works well if you want to focus on a particular area or concern. At least 60 minutes would be required for multiple areas or full-body. A 90- or 120-minute treatment allows for a slower and more detailed full-body experience. If you’re unsure, read my guide to choosing between a 30, 60 or 90 minute massage.

Do I need to do anything before my appointment?

Complete your consultation form well in advance of arriving so it can be reviewed to confirm the massage is safe to proceed based on your medical background. Avoid a very heavy meal immediately before your treatment but remain hydrated. Please arrive freshly showered for your appointment.

Are there times when a massage may not be suitable?

Certain illnesses, medical conditions, injuries, recent surgery or other circumstances may mean your treatment needs to be adapted or postponed. Your consultation form helps identify anything we should discuss before your appointment.
