The Treatment Journey
A tailored Swedish Massage remains the foundation of the session. During treatment, the red and near-infrared light panel is positioned above a chosen area while the massage continues elsehwere, so the session stays hands-on throughout.
01 Massage Begins
Your treatment begins with Swedish Massage tailored to your preferred pressure, focus areas and treatment time
02 Light Is Positioned
The panel is placed above a suitable area such as the upper, mid or lower back, legs, face, neck or chest
03 Massage Continues

The Science Behind Red + Near-Infrared Light
Red + Near-Infrared Light Therapy, often referred to as photobiomodulation, is studied for the way specific wavelengths interact with cells and tissues. One of the main areas of interest is mitochondrial activity – the processes cells use to produce usable energy – alongside signalling pathways involved in tissue function, repair and recovery.
In muscle-focused research, red and near-infrared light has been studied for its potential to support exercise recovery, reduce post-exercise soreness and influence markers linked with muscular stress and fatigue. Results vary depending on wavelength, dose, timing and treatment schedule, so the evidence is most useful as a guide to potential recovery benefits rather than a guarantee from a single session.

By pairing the calming, tension-relieving benefits of Swedish Massage with targeted Red + Near-infrared Light, this treatment offers a more complete approach to recovery and wellbeing – helping you unwind physically while giving tired or overworked areas additional support at a cellular level.
What the Research Suggests
Research into photobiomodulation and massage covers a broader picture than sports performance alonne – including muscle recovery, physical comfort, relaxation and overall wellbeing.
MUSCLE RECOVERY
Red + NIR photobiomodulation has been studied for its potential to reduce post-exercise soreness and support recovery of tired r heavily worked muscles
COMFORT & FUNCTION
Photobiomodulation has been studied across a range of musculoskeletal settings, including neck and shoulder discomfort, with research exploring painn, function and tissue recovery
RELAXATION & WELLBEING
Massage brings a different layer of bennefit, with research reporting reduced stress and anxiety, improved relaxation and a greater sense of recovery and wellbeing
Research findings relate to specific wavelengths, treatment schedules and repeated treatment courses, so individual results may vary.
You Choose Where the Light is Focused
The panel can be positioned above a suitable area depending on what you want from the treatment – whether that’s muscular recovery, physical comfort, relaxation or more skin-focused wellbeing.
UPPER / MID / LOWER BACK
The back offers a broad treatment area, allowing the panel to expose a larger area of muscle and surrounding tissue to red and NIR light at once. Its a good choice for general recovery, tension and overall body-focused wellbeing.
THIGHS / CALVES
A useful option for tired or heavily worked legs, particularly after exercise or periods of increased activity.
FACE / NECK / CHEST
For clients who want more of the skin-wellbeing side of red light, including radiance and a fresher-looking appearance and targeted light across the face, neck and chest.

Professional-Grade Red + Near-Infrared Light
The high output multi-wavelength LED panel used at NOVO Therapy has a higher manufacturer rated irradiance than several popular at-home LED masks, while allowing a much larger area of the body to receive light at once.
The treatment centres on 630nm and 660nm red light alongside 810nm and 850nm near-infrared light wavelength ranges commonly studied in photobiomodulation research around cellular activity, muscle recovery, tissue function and skin wellbeing. The panel also produces additional near-infrared wavelengths at 940nm, 980nm and 1060nm.
Unlike a wearable mask, the panel can be positioned above different areas of the body and adapted to the focus of your treatment, whether that’s the back, legs, face, neck, chest or stomach.
Based on published manufacturer specifications. Irradiance measurements are not directly standardised between devices, and higher irradiance alone does not determine treatment effectiveness.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does red and near-infrared light therapy feel like?
The light itself is non-invasive and usually feels gently warm rather than hot. You simply relax while the panel is positioned above the chosen area and your massage continues elsewhere.
Where can the red light be focused?
Wherever you’d prefer. The panel can be positioned above a suitable area such as the upper, mid or lower back, thighs or calves, over the face, neck and chest or over the stomach. We can choose the focus based on whether you’re looking for particular muscular recovery, physical comfort, relaxation or a more skin-focused wellbeing.
Does the massage stop while I’m under the red light?
No. That’s one of the main features of the treatment. The panel is positioned over one area for up to 20 minutes while massage continues elsewhere, so you can continue receiving hands-on treatment rather than simply lying under the light.
Is this only for athletes or exercise recovery?
Not at all. Red and NIR light is widely researched in recovery settings, but this treatment is designed equally for people who simply want to relax, support tired or tense areas and enjoy a more restorative massage experience.
Is Red Light Therapy Massage suitable for everyone?
Not always. Certain medical conditions, medications and light sensitivities may make red-light treatment unsuitable or mean medical advice is needed first. Relevant health information will be checked before treatment so the session can be adapted appropriately.
Is professional red light different from an at-home LED device?
NOVO Therapy uses a high-output multi-wavelength panel with a higher manufacturer rated irradiance than several popular at-home LED devices. The larger panel can also treat broarder areas such as the back or legs rather than being limited primarily to the face.
