What Does a Full Body Massage Include?

“Full body massage” sounds wonderfully straightforward until you realise nobody has actually told you which bits count as the full body.

Does it include feet? Arms? Stomach? Glutes? Face? Are we starting at the forehead and working all the way down to the toes?

Not quite.

The quick answer

At NOVO Therapy, a standard full-body Swedish Massage is generally built around the back, neck, shoulders and legs, with other areas such as arms and hands, feet, stomach or glutes included or adapted depending on the treatment, time available and what you are comfortable with.

You do not have to have every area treated.

Full body means the appointment is designed to cover multiple areas rather than being a focused one-area treatment. It does not mean every area gets identical time, and it does not remove your right to say no to anything.

Does full body include my back?

Yes.

For most people, the back, neck and shoulders are a major part of a full-body Swedish Massage.

If those are also your priority areas, tell me and I can shift more time towards them.

Does it include legs?

Usually, yes.

A full-body treatment normally includes work through the legs, but the exact areas can be adapted.

If you have a reason you do not want an area touched, you do not need to justify it with an elaborate story.

Are arms and hands included?

They can be.

How much time we have matters. A 60-minute full-body massage has to make more decisions about time than a 90-minute treatment.

If hands and arms are something you particularly enjoy, tell me rather than hoping I somehow sense this telepathically.

What about feet?

Feet can be included if you want them.

Some people absolutely love foot massage. Other people would rather cancel the whole appointment.

Both are useful things for me to know.

Does full body massage include the stomach?

It can, but it is not something I assume everybody wants.

Abdominal massage is optional and should be discussed rather than appearing as a surprise.

If you would rather skip it, we skip it.

What about glutes?

Gluteal work can be relevant within massage, but boundaries and consent matter.

At NOVO Therapy, any work around more sensitive areas is handled professionally, with appropriate draping and clear agreement.

You can also simply say you do not want glute work.

Does a full-body massage include my face or scalp?

Not automatically in a standard full-body Swedish Massage.

If face, neck or scalp work is what you mainly want, that can be booked as a focused Swedish treatment instead. The Biohacking Facial Massage with Red Light Therapy is a different, more face-led treatment again.

If face or scalp massage is particularly important to you, mention it before we start rather than assuming it is part of the full-body sequence.

How are you covered during a full-body massage?

You remain appropriately draped throughout.

Only the area being worked on is uncovered.

The point is for you to feel comfortable and professional boundaries to remain completely clear.

Can I ask you to skip an area?

Absolutely.

Full body is a treatment format, not a contract forcing you to have every possible area massaged.

If you do not want feet, stomach, arms or anything else included, tell me.

The treatment can be rebalanced around the areas you do want.

Is 60 minutes enough for a full-body massage?

Yes, and I think of 60 minutes as the practical starting point.

There is time to cover the body while giving some additional attention to priority areas.

Ninety minutes gives us more breathing room and makes it easier to include more areas without feeling as though we are constantly moving on.

A 120-minute Swedish Massage is the extended option for clients who genuinely want a long, unhurried full-body treatment with plenty of time for priority areas too.

So what should I say at the consultation?

Tell me what you want more of, what you want less of and anything you do not want touched.

You do not have to memorise a body-area checklist before arriving.

That is exactly what the conversation before the massage is for.
